DESCRIPTION
Dan's design work for the terraces is nestled between the 1916 historic museum building designed by Hubbell & Benes and the new 2012 museum expansion designed by Raphael Viñoly Architects (RVA). One of Dan's favourite design projects as an architect pursues the truth of materials, while at the same time advances the narrative of reasoning for the memory of a building and the history of a place.
Phase 1 cleaning of the entire exterior preceded the phase 2 terrace reconstruction for handi-capped accessible paths around the exterior of the museum. The Phase 3 historic preservation masterplan for the larger museum addition and Fine Arts Garden lighting were more independent projects which completed CMA's grand visions of revitalizing and increasing the accessibility of CMA's collections and presence to the city of Cleveland. Below are 'before' and 'after' images of the work.
